Quincy, Massachusetts
The National Fire Protection Association has taken the extraordinary step of issuing a safety bulletin in the wake of an apartment explosion that resulted in the death of one person and the severe injury of another. We wrote an article about this in March's TECH-NEWS. For details on the investigation you can click HERE. To read the NFPA Bulletin, you can click HERE!
Nope. Not fifty years, but fifty (50) questions. Keep 'em coming, guys (and gals)!
Quincy, Mass. - The NFPA recently released figures tabulating the overall cost of stucture fires in the U.S. (in 2007) and comparing it to the GDP (Gross Domestic Product). The figure is a staggering 2.5 percent of GDP, representing an 86% increase over 1980's calculations! NFPA experts figure the total core cost of fires in the US in 2007 was $347 Billion (that's right - BILLION). The figure reflects a number of different factors - economic (in the way of property damage), human loss (lives, medical costs, etc.), and something they term "provisioning costs" (which includes fire fighter's training and salaries, insurance, cost of equipment, etc.).
The NFPA annual convention in Las Vegas, Nevada in early June showcased some up and coming technologies to aid in the fight against fire, but also served as the perfect venue from which to announce the launch of Potter's new partnership with Nohmi Bosai, Japan's largest fire protection equipment manufacturer. They've apparently combined forces to create a new line of fire alarm panels and peripherals that we hope will take the North American market by storm! Watch this space for more exciting announcements from this new partner-driven contender!
