ACTIVE FIRE AND SAFETY SERVICES LTD. MAKING A SPLASH... AGAIN! - Active Fire Technicians Slammed for Performing a Substandard Inspection!

Vancouver – ASTTBC has completed their investigation into a complaint involving a downtown Vancouver building which was inspected and serviced by technicians in the employ of Active Fire and Safety Services Ltd. of Surrey, British Columbia.  Shoddy inspection practice isn’t at the heart of this issue however (although it certainly pointed the way). Two of Active's senior technicians were involved (one in the actual annual test, while the other provided "repairs" and tagged off on a panel which was riddled with defects). You can read more about this HERE

FIRELITE TRAINING - VANCOUVER!

Vancouver - Fire-Lite Alarms (a Honeywell Company) in partnership with TRI-ED Vancouver provided a two day training seminar on June 14th and 15th, 2010 at TRI-ED's Burnaby facility. Earl Muise presented the formal course material which included a series of impressive videos which served to high-light the reason we're all in the business of Life Safety. Day two of the training featured an introduction to FireLite's new 9050UD and a comprehensive hands-on session which involved actual setup and programming of the panel. Kudos to Earl for his excellent presentation, and to TRI-ED/FireLite. TRI-ED's annual harbour boat cruise and dinner took place in the evening of the 15th. Over 300 invited guests and vendor sponsors attended this gala Hawaiian themed event that featured good food, great people and a spectacular sunset!

CASA AGM IN WHISTLER!

By all accounts, the Canadian Automatic Sprinkler Association AGM and conference at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler was an excellent showcase for a number of vendors/manufacturers in which to introduce new technology and some new innovations on their existing product lines. Potter's Ralph Coco expressed some disappointment in the fact that the number of independent sprinkler installation companies present at the show was down significantly. Plenty of guys from Simplex-Grinnel, and Viking showed up though. Potter introduced an innovative corrosion inhibiter along with a water test kit that will enable the end-user to determine exactly what is going on inside a buidling's sprinkler system and help avoid costly repairs. It's important that we all support CASA's efforts in promoting the installation and proper maintenance of this vital component of a Life Safety System. For more information you can go HERE!

PUBLIC SAFETY IN PERIL! - A TECH-NEWS EXTRA!

Vancouver - Arkady Tsisserev had been fighting a one man battle with City Hall and as it has been proven over and over again; you can’t win this kind of fight. Without regurgitating all the “he said, she said” stuff, let’s just say that he lost his job because he was doing his job... the only way he knew how... without compromise.

But the war continues on another front. The City of Vancouver Manager’s Office may once have clouded the battlefield with smoke rings of Olympic proportions, but now that they’ve blown clear, we can finally get down to business. I’m talking the life safety business (and I’m telling you that some of these issues aren' t exclusive to Vancouver alone).

There are several which continue to trouble me (and some new ones too).

  1. Why is it that the only individual with any media connections that really gave a damn in all of this has been Alex Tsakumis? A lot of you are probably asking: “Who the heck is THAT guy?”  Well, he’s probably got one of the most widely read political blogs (and commentary) in the country (www.alexgtsakumis.com) and he’s...
