Many of you have probably read my extensive TIP on communicators used to transmit signals generated by a fire alarm system to a central monitoring facility. And many of you have seen some shoddy examples of installations by some pretty major players in the industry. This one really takes the cake, though.

Here we have a DSC PC-1000 can with an FBI XL-2 common control board literally "stuck" inside. The keypad is sitting (unsupported) on top of the main telephone termination cabinet.

Here's a closer look at the common control board. The double sided sticky tape used to mount it to the can has "let go" (that's my thumb on the right - sorry!).

With such a small can, where do you put the stand-by battery?? Why, in its own enclosure three feet away, of course!
