ASTTBC SEIZES COUNTERFEIT STAMP!

Vancouver, British Columbia - A telephone call from a local fire equipment service agency has resulted in the seizure of a counterfeit ASTTBC stamp.  Brian Stegavig, Manager for Fire Protection Registration confronted the individual who surrendered the stamp (which he had arranged to have manufactured through a local company) without incident.  ASTTBC maintains an up-to-date listing of valid technician registrations on their website (CFAA maintains a similar searchable database as well).  If you happen to be an employer (or Human Resources Manager), I would strongly suggest you check your applicant's stated credentials against either of these lists.  If you suspect or have knowledge of an individual that is misrepresenting his qualifications, please contact the appropriate agency!

ASTTBC CONTINUES TO MOVE FORWARD WITH VERIFICATION DISCIPLINE!

Vancouver, British Columbia - ASTTBC continues to work towards finalizing the requirements for certification of individuals engaged in performing fire alarm verifications in accordance with CAN/ULC-S537 (Standard for Verification of Fire Alarm Systems).  We'll endeavour to keep you apprised of the latest developments!

U.S. HOME FIRES - THOUSANDS KILLED AND INJURED!

Quincy, Massachusetts - The NFPA's report on Home Structure Fires contains some disturbing facts.  Over the period of 2005 to 2009, 12,890 injuries, an average of 2650 civilian deaths annually, and a total of 7.1 Billion Dollars in direct property damage.  I think it behooves us all to sharpen our skills and ensure our customers have the tools to recognize hazards and plan a safe escape in the event of a fire!
