TYCO TO SPLIT IN THREE WAYS!

Las Vegas, Nevada - Tyco International announced that it will split into three separate entities on October 1, 2012 at the National Fire Protection Association Annual Conference and Expo, held here.  The new companies are ADT North America, Tyco Fire and Security, and Tyco Flow Control, with ADT concentrating primarily on the residential security business.  SimplexGrinnell, will form the backbone of the Tyco Fire and Security Division.

 

FIRETECHS.NET SUBJECTED TO ANOTHER INTERNET DOS (DENIAL OF SERVICE) ATTACK!

Surrey, British Columbia - At approximately 1130 hours today (June 19, 2012) we experienced a high level DOS attack which took down our server for about twenty minutes.  I’m informed by our hosting provider that the attack originated in Hong Kong.  Interesting!  This is the third such attack (to my knowledge) that we’ve been subjected to in the last two years.  I wonder if it was something I wrote!

UL ISSUES WARNING ABOUT COUNTERFEIT SPRINKLER HEADS!

Northbrook, Illinois - UL/ULC have issued a warning regarding counterfeit sprinkler heads bearing a fraudulent Tyco part number and cUL mark.  The heads are manufactured by Migo International Trading Company in China.  Distributors, installers, technicians and regulatory authorities in the United States and Canada are advised that the letters TYCO and UL are both stamped in an area where these marks DO NOT APPEAR on the legitimately manufactured product.  The model number of the affected sprinkler head is T-ZSTZ-15 distributed in both upright and pendant configurations.  The press release (complete with pictures depicting the counterfeit units) can be viewed HERE!

 

HONEYWELL SET TO LAUNCH MASS NOTIFICATION PRODUCTS!

Honeywell is getting ready to launch a whole series of new products that will address recent Code additions and changes around Mass Notification.  Honeywell’s fire division includes the Silent Knight, Notifier, FireLite Alarms, Gamewell/FCI, and System Sensor brands.  Silent Knight’s newest panel, the IFP-1000ECS isn’t available in Canada just yet, but will leverage cutting edge technologies to help  address the need for disseminating emergency messaging and notification over a number of public and private communication methodologies.  You can read more about this HERE!

Surrey, B. C. - Charles Joyner has accepted the position of ASTTBC’s Registrar.  He replaces the outgoing John Shortreid as the official representative on the Practice Review Board as well.  Welcome aboard, Charles!
