AWM Conductor Use

Is AWM conductor suitable for a fire alarm install? Installed in conduit for the initiation circuit.
Some AWM is labelled AWM/TEW, which would be okay via Table 11.

I don't believe it would be. Here's UL/ULC's "take" on it. "Unlike most wire categories, appliance wiring material (AWM) is a Recognized Component used in UL Listed or Classified end products. AWM wires are intended as factory-installed or factory-provided components of complete equipment submitted for investigation, rather than for direct separate installation in the field." (

Actually if they are TEW conductors and they are 16 gauge they are approved to be pulled in a raceway for FIre Alarm Systems. I would suggest tho to not take my code review as gospel and review the exact circumstance with your local electrical inspector. Although I can't imagine those conductors would be very cheap...
